Choosing a distribution vendor: five criteria

Assess distribution vendors through account access, field mapping, queues, callbacks and maintenance responsibilities.

Workflows, code, accounts and report examples are illustrative. Example numbers and responses are illustrative data, not client results or measurements. Integration scope requires project validation.

Compare distribution vendors against a complete workflow rather than endpoint counts or one call’s price. Use the same brief, samples and acceptance table to assess access, fields, failures, data and exit responsibilities.

1. Coverage and account access

Request the platform, account type, format, operations, approved purpose and validation state for every requirement. Another customer’s demo is a reference, not proof for your accounts. QR or OAuth labels do not replace access evidence.

2. Mapping and recovery

Assess field mappings, approved revisions, duplicate protection, timeout reconciliation, limits and delayed callbacks. Use normal and failing samples to distinguish rejection, missing access and retryable faults, with operator ownership assigned.

3. Returned data and evidence

Verify obtainable states and metrics, observed latency and retained sources. For reporting or settlement, agree windows, deduplication, missing values and corrections. A combined success rate must not conceal different platform meanings.

4. Total cost and 5. Exit responsibilities

Compare development or subscriptions, expansion, storage, external fees, maintenance and migration. Demonstrate exports, revocation and handover. Establish app ownership, historical IDs, source scope and future adaptation responsibilities before choosing.

Next step: prepare a reviewable brief

Use the development service scope to identify modules. See the related assessment for the connected decision. Prepare target platforms, account ownership, existing software, redacted samples and acceptance needs. Review cost factors and contact Nara to discuss feasible scope.
